Catching up

Marci and I have spent the past several days getting ready for the move and the next big phase this fall.

Okay, the reality is we've spent the last five days watching the Season One Alias box set, Rockstar Supernova (Go Dilana!), and Project Runway. Also, I'm a contributor on an academic textbook that comes out next year, so I've been finishing a draft over the past couple days. It needs some major reworking, but that's going to have to wait now that our relocation is imminent.

My dad came up last week to help out with a few jobs around here, but it was also a good excuse for us to just hang out, drink Foster's, and spend some time together. We hung new gutters and dad repainted the back deck. He did some nice painting on the interior, too.

After seeing an interesting segment on The Food Network show "Food Finds," Marci and I took a mini-break last weekend and chased down some locally made jam, some outrageously great chocolate truffles, visited a winery, and stopped by a specialty bakery a couple hours from here. The trip was sort of a progressive picnic or a scavenger hunt for all the things we saw on the show. It was good to get out of the house, especially since the place has a buyer. Other than the wine, they were all indulgences for the pregnant and non-pregnant alike.

We got official word yesterday on the two home inspections the buyer conducted (one was a general inspector, and one was a pest inspector)--she made no requests of any kind in her response. We're going to reward the buyer for not being anal about the inspections by leaving her a pretty nice gas barbeque pit and a gas heater for chilly nights on the deck. The way is now totally clear for our closing on September 20th.

Marci and I have an appointment with Dr. W. on Friday. I guess this is the visit when we tell him that we'll have to have another Doc deliver The Peanut, since we'll be moving out of state. We have a good rapport with Dr. W., and he seems totally focused and competent, so having to transition to someone else in the third trimester somewhat sucks. The good thing is, Marci doesn't seem to really care about switching to an unknown.

Yet another example of how she's much more stoical about this whole thing than I am.
